ESW GOES TO PALM SPRINGS!

When you think of Palm springs, you might think of coachella or the sweet fruit dates, what about wind turbines?! You have probably seen them driving down interstate 10. We had the opportunity to see these wind turbines and learn some great facts about them! Here are some that I think you will find fascinating!

Why Palm Springs? Well it is suited perfect for wind turbines due to the its geographical features. Because palm springs is in between two of Southern California’s highest mountains, it channels air so well. Essentially acting as a huge wind tunnel.

The tallest turbines are 150 ft tall and their blades are so big that if they were to lay flat on the ground, it would fit a Boeing 747. 1 wind turbine can produce 1 MW and thats enough to power 750 homes. They have a life cycle of 20-30 years. And the min wind speed needed to produce electricity is 7 mph!

A special thanks to Christina and her dad for joining us! Hope you had as much as we did! (: “
